I finished my first book of the new year! It was a Star Trek novel I had been putting off reading, since I wanted to save it for the new year. I liked it, it was a very slow build and a little heavy handed at times, but still enjoyable. I wouldn't say it was my favourite Trek novel so far, those still go to the McCoy novels, but it was nice to visit with The Next Generation. One funny thing, there are these sacred birds in the novel, and I kept picturing them looking like a cassowary, only kiwi sized. The problem is, that is not how the are described, they are supposed to have no necks, but no matter how hard I tried, that is just how I pictured them in my head.

Anyways, this fulfills the the Movie/TV Tie-in square for my book bingp.

So, I read my first Star Trek tie-in novel, it was Dreams of Ravens by Carmen Carter, and have to say I really enjoyed it. It was very character driven with spurts of action, plus a bit of a mystery mixed in. It was focused on McCoy, who was one of my faves from the original series, and on the Kirk-McCoy friendship. There was also an original character, Dr Diana Dyson, which I really liked, but I checked the wiki and this is the only novel she appears in, which is too bad, she had a great relationship with McCoy.

I have heard the tie-in novels can be hit or miss, have you read any of the other tie-in novels? Any you can recommend?  I am familiar with TOS, TNG and VOY.
