1. Most Hits: A Gentle Stirring Of That Unsaid (Dead Boy Detectives, Edwin/Charles) - I was a little surprised, but I did get in on the ground floor with that fandom pretty much

2. Second Most Kudos: The Past Is A Damaged Thing (OFMD, Stede/Izzy/Ed) - not too surprised, people seem to like Izzy having a tragic backstory

3. Third Most Comments: Savior and Ice Queen (FTWD, Madison/Troy) - I'm sure most of those comments were are you ever going to finish this fic? Which I eventually did.

4. Fourth Most Bookmarks: Intertwined (Star Trek: TOS) (Kirk/Spock?McCoy) - glad to see love for one of my Trek fics

5. Fifth Most Words: Shelter For My Bones (OFMD, Izzy/Ed/Stede) - oh no, my long unfinished WIP, look away!

6. Fic With Second Fewest Words (That's Not a Drabble): Little Brother (Batman, Tim & Dick) - this one was hard to figure out becuase the stats page keeps showing my vids as the fewest words, so I made a judgment call and thought it was this one, which is actually less than drabble length

7. Seventh Most Common Relationship: Castiel/Sam Winchester - I really loved sastiel once upon a time

8. Eighth Drabble Posted: Abstract Puzzlement (Only Murders in the Building, Mabel, Oliver & Charles)

9. Ninth Most Common Character: James T. Kirk - hello again, Star Trek

10. Tenth Mature and/or Explicit Fic: Blankets (The 100, Kane/Abby) - this is an old one, but I don't write a lot of explicit fics

11. Eleventh Most Recent Completed Fic: Homes on Distant Moons (OFMD, Ed/Izzy) - this was my fic for this past year's Our Flag Means Gifts

12. Twelfth Most Recent Story in Your Sixth Most Common Tag: The Return (GoT, Jaime/Brienne) - this is an old one,the tag was "one-shot"

13. Favorite Title That Isn't from a Poem or Song or Shakespeare or The West Wing: A Pain Diminished and Hope Regrown (Good Omens, Aziraphale/Crowley) - I was cooking with this one, I still love this title so much

Your main fandom this year?

This has been kind of a wild year for me fandom wise, I got into four new fandoms this year! The big ones are Doctor Who and Dead Boy Detectives, Doctor Who really sucked me in, to the point that I was listening to Big Finish stuff and reading tie-in novels, and I don't think I'm done with Who, just taking a break for a bit. Dead Boy Detectives I loved with my whole heart, and I'm still sad it won't be getting a second season. I dipped into Ghosts (US version) for a bit, it is very fun and chill. And lastly, I have spent the holidays watching the Granada Sherlock Holmes series, and I love it so much. I think teenage me would be so happy, because I read so many of the Sherlock Holmes stories as a teen and loved them, and it has been long enough now that I don't remember a lot of the details of the mysteries, so the stories are fresh again.
Rest of questions under the cut )

1. Angst

bloom & wilt by redshift (OFMD, Ed/Izzy, Ed/Izzy/Stede, E, 31k)
Select Tags: Hanahaki Disease, Israel Hands is Bad at Feelings
Author's Summary: Izzy has spent years at Edward's side. The occasional petal here and there, the intermittent rasp that makes itself a permanent home in the hollows of his throat, the cough that comes and goes; it's all worth it, to be the person Ed turns to. It's a price he pays willingly.

Now, though. Now, Izzy knows what love looks like on Edward Teach, and it is soft and sweet and open and nothing like what Izzy has ever been able to give. Izzy's place is at Edward's side, and it's killing him.

That's okay. He's always wanted to die for something that matters.

Borrowed from [personal profile] misbegotten and [personal profile] sixbeforelunch

1. Your main fandom this year?
Still Star Trek, mostly TOS and Lower Decks, and I also got back into Good Omens again this year for some reason, maybe because I find fics about Azirphale/Crowley comforting

2. Your favorite film watched this year?
I didn't watch a lot of fiction movies this year (mostly just documentaries), however, I surprisingly really enjoyed Thor: The Dark World, I watched it because I never had back in the day, because everyone said it was bad, so I skipped it, but I really liked it.

My other pick is Brokeback Mountain, again I was way late watching this.  It was a beautifully done film, absolutely heartbreaking, but I don't think I will ever be able to bring myself to watch it again.

3. Your favorite book read this year?
Song of Achilles, I know it was recced everywhere on social media, but dammit they were right.  The author does such a great job of taking a minor character from Greek Mythology, Patroclus, and making them a living, breathing person, and the love story between Achilles/Patroclus is beautiful, but not without flaws.  I cried like a baby during the last third of the book.  This is a story I am very glad to have read, but I don't know if I will ever be able to reread it.

Also, special mention to The Bone Shard Daughter a very interesting fantasy book, I loved one character and his animal companion in particular, and I am curious how the series is going to continue.

4. Your favorite TV show of the year?
I want to say Hawkeye, but I don't know how it is going to end next week!  But up to this point, Hawkeye has been an unexpected treasure.

5. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
Loki and Hawkeye, surprisingly the TV series have really pulled me more into the MCU, than the films ever did.

Also, shout out to Superman & Lois, I really enjoyed that series and wish that it had a bigger fandom.

6. Your biggest fandom disappointment?
I can't think of anything major, maybe that they gave Loki a female love interest.  Don't get me wrong, I love Sylvie and I liked their chaotic dynamic, I just didn't want them to be romantically involved, but I get that this is a me thing

7. Your TV boyfriend of the year?
Loki or Bones

8. Your TV girlfriend of the year?
B-15 or Kate Bishop

9. Your biggest squee moment of the year?
I can't think of one in particular, seeing a lot of comics references in the Hawkeye series has been delight.

Lower Decks had some great stories and references as well this season, and we finally got to see Cetacean Ops!  Also, I don't want to give away spoilers, but I will say I laughed so much at Doctor T'Ana with a forklift, and Borg Babies ;)

10. The most missed of your old fandoms?
I guess The 100, I was thinking recently about how much I loved that series at one point, and some of the characters have a special place in my heart, but it became such a trash fire near the end that I just can't bring myself to revisit it, even in fandom form.  Which is strange, because I can ignore things I don't like in other fandoms, see SPN and GoT for example, I ignore their endings all the time, but there is just something about The 100 that I just can't touch.

11. The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
The Witcher, I have been seeing gif sets online and it has made me really curious about the series

Title Meme

kingstoken: (Default)
So, I decided to do the title meme that has been floating around.

AO3 Title Meme by [personal profile] china_shop (I snagged it from both [personal profile] nrgburst and [personal profile] oldtoadwoman)

Of the 20 most recent titles of your AO3 works (I just picked fics, and not art or vids)

1. How many are you happy with?
Pretty much all of them

2. How many are... not great?
I actually think they are all fine, however I did think of a better name for Memory Lane after the fact, but I created it as part of an exchange and someone had already made art with that title, so I didn't change it.

3. How many did you scramble for at the last minute?
A lot of them, I tend to pick the title last

4. How many did you know before you started writing/creating, or near the beginning?
Crepes, just because it was part of an exchange where the prompt was food based

5. How many are quotes from songs or poems?
None

6. How many are other quotes?
None

7. Which best reflects the plot of the story/content of the fanwork?
At lot of titles seem to reflect the plot quite literally, here are a few
*Wrapping Knuckles, it's about Marvel Comics' Kate wrapping up Clint knuckles
*Your Short Order Cook is an Archangel which is about the short order cook being an archangel
*Kiss in the Rain, which is about a couple kissing the rain
I think maybe I need to be more creative and less factual with my title choices

8. Which best reflects the theme of the story/fanwork?
I guess Darkness, I hate to pick this one, because it is not even drabble length, but it is the only title that is somewhat theme related. I guess I just don't pick titles based on theme all that often.

9. Which best reflects the character voice of the story/POV of the fanwork?
Memory Lane, because it's mostly from SPN Adam's POV, and him reminiscing about his past life and sharing that with Michael.

10. Which is your favourite?
Dragon's Breath, because it does have a literal meaning in the story, but is also atmospheric, plus I just think it sounds awesome

What songs do you think would suit a character, scene or plotline in one your fandoms perfectly?
Burn the Witch by Shawn James for Rowena from Supernatural, I put it on my Samwena playlist, and I think it could also fit early seasons Sam as well, but it's perfect for Rowena
Human by Rag N' Bone Man could fit so many characters on on The Walking Dead, Rick, Carol, Michonne, Daryl, its a song about people expecting more from someone than they can give, so it is great for characters that are worn down, especially worn down leaders

Have you ever written a filk (song parody) or posted a fanvid? Link to it below!
No filk. I have made quite a few fan vids, but none from recently unfortunately. I'll pick two of my early vids, there are problems with the rendering so the quality isn't to my current standards, but I have a soft spot for these vids, because they are long ones and I spent way too much time making them:

Flares (The Walking Dead) (seasons 1-5)
Arsonist's Lullabye (Game of Thrones) (seasons 1-5)

Do you like musicals? How about musical movies and TV shows?
In general I like musicals, when it comes to musical films and TV episodes it really depends, I've seen decent and I've seen terrible

[personal profile] gwenhwyfar1984 picked:

This isn't from any particular fandom, it's from a stock photo I got off pixabay, but I changed the colouring, making the sky more of a purple-pink. I chose it for my default because it's beautiful, but also because it conveys a sense of serenity and freedom.

This is the pairing of Janeway/Chakotay from Star Trek Voyager, a great middle aged ship that alas never went canon. Their ship name is J/C. This gif is from season 2 when he lets her know that no matter what happens he'll stand beside her. I made this for someone during last year's snowflake challenge, but I also decided to add it to my own rotation. This is my only Star Trek icon, so I use it anytime I make a Trek related comment.

This is Jesse and James from the Pokemon Anime, I loved these guys when I was younger, and still kind of do, even though I haven't watched an episode of Pokemon in years. This icon was a gift I got in my fandom stocking in 2018, if I remember correctly, I got a whole set, but I loved this one in particular because they look so happy. I use it when I'm excited or joyful.

via[personal profile] nrgburst pick three of my icons and I'll tell you more about them. Or comment with "do me!" and I'll pick three of yours.
she chose:

This is the beautiful Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones, all I will say is she deserved better, because I really can't rant about parts of GoT season 8 anymore. This was a promo picture and I just cropped and changed the colouring to the softer pink sky. I made it for fandom giftbox last year, but loved it so much I decided to add it to my own rotation.

This is the amazing Rowena from Supernatural, she is a powerful witch and currently Queen of Hell. I use this when I'm feeling a little sassy, because of that wink.

This is a very minor background character from the season 14 finale of Supernatural, known as the Stapler Queen, a spell had been cast that made everyone tell the truth, when all her co-workers were fighting or crying, she just went around happily stealing everyone's staplers. I just love her, look how happy she is with her pile of staplers. I use this icon when I want to smile.

A: Your current OTP.
Sam/Rowena - Supernatural (there are others, but this is my current obsession)

B: A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind.
I don't think I have had anyone change my mind about a ship, but I have been introduced to a few ships by other fans. I found Kabby because quite a few Caryl shippers also shipped Kabby. And I found Raquel/Sergio (Lisbon/The Professor) from La Casa de Papel, because some Kabby fans also shipped them, etc.

C: A pairing you wish you shipped, but just can't.
Sam/Eileen, I like them both, but not together. It also might have been easier if I shipped Jon/Dany, but those two characters/actors had zero chemistry

D: What was the first thing you ever contributed to a fandom?
I didn't get into writing fic until about 5-6 years ago, my first fic was this little angsty Jaime/Brienne fic. Years before that I was part of an X-Files club where we would watch episodes together and then have discussions after, are discussions contributing to fandom? Maybe.

E: Have you added anything stupid/cracky/hilarious to your fandom, if so, what?
I've made a couple cracky vids:
Kirk is the Reason - a short little vid about Kirk and his many lady loves
Swear Jar - a tiny cracky vid about Arya Stark's kills

F: What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom? What fandom was it?
Star Trek, I wasn't always active in the fandom, and I come and go, but Star Trek has been a part of my life since I was a kid

G: What was your first fandom?
If we are talking media fandom than probably Star Trek or X-Men

H: Do you prefer real-life TV shows or animated TV shows?
Real-life mostly, but I do occasionally watch animated shows

I: Has the internet caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?
Not really, there have been a few crazy fandoms I have been a part of, but I mostly distance myself from, or block fans who cause unnecessary wank . I also tend to ship small/rare pairs, with a few exceptions, and I usually just find mutuals that like the same things and stick to those little pockets of the internet

J: Name a fandom you didn’t care/think about until you saw it all over the internet.
The 100, I avoided it for a long time because I thought it was only about teens, but when I saw gif sets of the adult characters I decided to give the show a chance, and really loved it for a few seasons

K: How do you feel about the other people in your current fandom(s).
The people I interact with are great, like I said before I try to ignore the wankers

L: Your favorite fanartist/author gives you one request, what do you ask for?
I would love Samwena art, I did bid on some artists for the Fandom for Australia auction, but the bids got too high for my blood

Trope Meme

Mar. 15th, 2020 10:04 am
kingstoken: (Default)
I'm bored, so I borrowed this meme from [personal profile] resnullius_bells where you have to chose between different tropes and explain why.

Slow burn OR love at first sight: there is something so satisfying about watching two people slowly come together as a couple

Fake dating OR secret dating: there is something funny about a pairing that thinks they are really good at keeping things under wraps, when in reality everyone knows

Enemies to lovers OR best friends to lovers: I love both these tropes very much, but I do a have a soft spot for well done enemies to lovers

Fantasy au OR modern au: I watch a lot of fantasy/sci-fi shows so modern AUs are often a nice break form the angst inherent in these shows

Smut OR fluff: I do love me some smut, but fluff puts the biggest smile on my face

Mutual pining OR domestic bliss: if they end up together in the end it can be a delicious payoff to all the angsty pinning

Alternate universe OR future fic: it's fun to imagine different universes where different pairings could end together, or characters who never met could meet

One shot OR multi-chapter: I do enjoy multi-chapter, but I often find myself reading fic late at night or early in the morning, when I have limited time, so one-shots hit the spot

Kid fic OR road trip fic: it's nice to see your pairing being parents, especially if you know it is never going to happen in canon

Reincarnation OR character death: I guess if I have to pick one it is death, but not a big fan of either one really

Arranged marriage OR accidental marriage: this one depends on the fandom, accidental marriages can make for really fun stories, but if it is something like GoT, then arranged marriage all the way

Time travel OR isolated together: two characters relying solely on each other, slowly revealing things about each other. Yes, please!

Neighbors OR roommates: I like the idea of neighbors looking out for each other, than becoming friends, then more

Sci-fi au OR magic au: magic has so many delightful possibilities, both good and bad

Angst OR crackfic: does the angst have a happy ending? Because I love that shit! (although, crackfic can be so funny sometimes)

Apocalyptic OR mundane: like I said above I already watch a lot of angsty canons, so mundane AUs can give your characters a nice break

High school romance or middle aged romance: middle aged romance all the way! I always ship the parents on any teen show

BDSM or vanilla: this super depends on my mood, but I guess I prefer loving vanilla sex (however, BDSM can be written as loving too, if you get the right author)

Redemption or corruption: some of my faves are antagonists that have had good redemption arcs

Vampires or werewolves: because vampires squick me out, they always have, which made it hard for me to avoid them when they were all the rage awhile back (my one exception being Benny from SPN, I love that vamp and that vamp only)

Soulmates or second chances: two people overcoming obstacles and finding a way to love again is much more satisfying to me than predestination

Hurt/comfort or romance: I'm going H/C if it is high on comfort and low on the hurt, because it is the characters comforting each after trauma that really appeals to me

Rescue fic or working together to defeat X: I like both, but I'm a sucker for a realization of feelings from one character once the other is in danger, also desperate, tearful hugs when they are reunited are always nice

Which TV shows did you start watching in 2019?
Lost, Good Omens, La Casa de Papel (s1-2), Supernatural (kind of, I watched all the seasons I had missed over the years and rewatched the early seasons because it had been so long I had forgotten a bunch of stuff)

Which TV shows did you let go of in 2019?
The 100, this one hurt because I loved the characters so much, but season 6 was just a trash fire, plus they killed off my favourite characters. Also, The Walking Dead, again not a lot of characters left that I really love, although, I do still watch the recent Daryl/Carol scenes on Youtube, because I still love them, even without context

Which TV show impressed you least in 2019?
Game of Thrones, I didn't completely hate it, there were some parts I did like, but overall it was very rushed, and a lot of characters being handed the idiot ball in order to move the plot along. Also, The 100, see my answer above

Which TV show do you think you might let go of in 2020 unless things significantly improve?
I can't think of anything right now, I will be forced to give up Supernatural, because it is the last season :(

Your main fandom of the year?
I think it was pretty evenly split between, Game of Thrones, so much discussion and fix-it fic read, and Supernatural, which I'm a little sad about getting into so late, but I am really enjoying it
