My brother and I went to the theatre to see Disney's newest live action film, Snow White, yesterday.  It wasn't as terrible as I had heard it was, but it wasn't great either, it was just alright.  There were parts of it I really liked.  The beginning with Snow White's backstory and musical number I thought was really well done.  I thought Snow White and her love interest had chemistry, and some of the musical numbers were fun.  That being said you kind of got the feeling that they weren't willing to just let this be a Snow White movie, like they kept some of the core elements of the original story, but they also seemed to throw in stuff from other fairy tales, like Snow White's love interest isn't a prince from a neighbouring kingdom like from the original story, but a Flynn Ryder/Robin Hood type.  The dwarfs also looked really uncanny valley, and that takes some getting used to.  They also cut back the time Snow White spent with the dwarfs, which I understand why, but it was a shame because their friendship was the charm of the original film.  Also, can I just say Gal Gadot is not really scary as the Evil Queen, she just kind of looked uncomfortable in the whole get-up they had her in, like she didn't own it, and her villain song was bad, which was surprising because usually the one thing Disney is usually good at is the villain songs. Plus, there was a plot point about Snow White's father that got kind of dropped and brushed aside which I think would have been interesting if they had gone that route, and I'm kind of sad they didn't follow it.  I don't know, I have mixed feelings about this film, I didn't hate it, I liked parts of it, but overall a bit underwhelming.
