Challenge #6

In your own space, share a favourite piece of original canon (a show, a specific TV episode, a storyline, a book or series, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much

I've been having a terrible day so, lots of fandomtrees stress, and then I found out that a cousin of mine passed away. We hadn't been close in recent years, but we had been close as children. So, I'm still a bit in shock, she was only two years older than me.

Anyways, I didn't know what to put for this post. Last year I raved about Izzy Hands, I still love him to bits, but I'm still super sad about how season 2 ended so I'm choosing someone different this year.

I thought I would go with a classic fave of mine Carol Peletier from The Walking Dead. She probably has one of the best character arcs in a series I've ever seen, going from fearful abuse victim to fierce protector of her group of survivors, with a whole bunch of trauma along the way. I don't know if I can recommend TWD overall, it dragged on for way too long, and I stopped watching after the stupidness that was All Out War. Plus, you can only watch so much zombie apocalypse stuff for so long before it starts to get to you. That being said, Carol is still one of my all time favourite characters. Enjoy this vid, it does contain spoilers, but it probably won't matter out of context. It is just her being a badass for most of it:

First, I'm so sorry about your cousin. My thoughts are with you.

I haven't watched the fanvid yet -- I'll do so after posting this comment. But I agree, Carol was a fantastic character, when you think of her in the first episodes she changed so much, became so much stronger and like you said, fierce and a protector to so many people.

Sadly, I also agree the show dragged on too long.

Now, I'm off to watch Carol be a badass.

My condolences for your loss.

As for your fandom fave this year, I love it when women characters get meaty character arcs. It sounds like Carol had a good one.

I’ve certainly never forgot the first episode of Season 5, when Carol goes to free the others from Terminus; Tyreese asks what she’s going to do, and she looks back to him with absolutely no expression and says, “I’m going to kill people.”

And she does. Oh my goodness gracious, does she ever. I’ve done three tours in Middle East combat theaters, and I’m telling you: her assault on Terminus could be taught at West Point as a classic example of how a single person can use strategy and ground conditions to devastate a numerically superior enemy. She didn’t just kill people, she essentially killed everybody, and rendered their stronghold unfit for human habitation.

You have nothing to fear from Carol if she doesn’t think you’re an enemy. If she does … your only hope is to run as far and fast as you can, or else kill her before her eyes ever turn in your direction.

That show had some seriously bad-ass characters. Carol might not be the worst, but she was absolutely the easiest (and most fatal) to underestimate.

Well, we’ve also seen her several times deliberately play to the expected stereotype to mislead people as to what they were dealing with. The contrast between what she could do, and what she looked like she could do, is one she used to her advantage whenever there was advantage to be gained.
