Oh, I know all about that! I read the book because of that controversy and researched it. That happened for the book Handbook for Mortals. The author called bookstores connected with the list and bought all the copies. The New York Times did not know this, and when they found out, they pulled her book. So in actuality, it was a one-time event that they quickly corrected, and the book that deserved that don't one.
But if you are uncomfortable with it, then yeah, award-winning is a good compromise!
And speaking of, how about a banned book? Do other countries do that? Like, here in the US schools ban books for stupid reasons. There is a banned book week, and libraries give out lists of famously banned books. I don't mean legally banned, of course! But like, banned in schools. Or maybe a banned book/controversial book?
